BIOGRAPHY
Kathryn Le Grice was born in Wales in 1972. She obtained an honours degree in Philosophy, with a focus on Aesthetics, from the University of Leeds in 1991, and a Masters degree in Museum Studies from the University of Leicester in 2004. Since then she has worked as a full-time artist, dividing her time between Swansea and San Francisco. She is primarily interested in the patterns we see every day, in the cities, towns, streets and buildings that surround us. Her native South Wales has provided the subject matter for much of her work, although she has gathered inspiration from many places. Her unique style of highly patterned cityscapes developed as a result of visits to New York and Paris, and she has been inspired by the landscape and light of Italy, Spain and California. Her painting also reflects her deep appreciation of the work of Matisse, Picasso and Rouault. Kathryn has synthesized these influences into a number of different approaches to painting, rich in detail, texture or colour. She works predominantly in acrylic but uses a variety of media, including collage.

Kathryn has exhibited widely, including three recent solo shows—at the Ceri Richards Gallery, Swansea in 2006, and at Patchings Art Centre, Nottingham and Fountain Fine Art, Llandeilo in 2008. She has also participated in many joint and group shows both in the UK and San Francisco. She has had her work selected for the ‘Welsh Artist of the Year’ exhibition and has had design work published by Paperchase. In 2006 she completed a commission for Swansea University, and in 2008 she was asked to produce a series of twelve paintings for the new Welsh Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery. In 2011 her work was purchased for the collection of the National Library of Wales.
