ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Dawn Benson trained as a graphic designer at Twickenham College of Technology in the 1970s. She practised as a graphic designer for 17 years before returning to her first love, sculpture and painting. Today, Dawn exhibits her work in exhibitions and galleries around the UK, and has pieces in collections around the world.
Dawn produces stylised, figurative sculptures in bronze, which she initially models in clay, plaster or wax. She works on an intimate, 'tabletop' scale and also produces large-scale sculptures for outside. Families and relationships are a recurring theme. A mother herself, much of Dawn's inspiration is drawn from her own experiences, relationships and feelings. More recently, she has begun to explore the deep bond that can develop between children and horses.
Her work captures an element of tension, humour and sensitivity, leaving one with the impression that there is often more than meets the eye:
"There is a myriad of feelings and emotions depicting relationships that I wish to explore both dependant and
inter-dependant, I feel that I have a lifetime full of creative ideas to work from".
In 'Who's Who in Art' since 2006.
