EDUCATION
I initially studied textile design at Manchester. We were encouraged to experiment with colour, texture and different media throughout the duration of the course. Following graduation I freelanced for a while selling designs to various furnishing companies such as: Crown Paints, Dorma, Marks and Spencer and Macy's of New York.
PERSONAL STATEMENT
In 1991 I decided to devote my time to full time painting as I always preferred to paint 'one offs' rather than repeat patterns. My love of colour and pattern has increased over the years. I enjoy experimenting with paint, colour, composition and texture and the pieces grow out of a notion; the compositional content being rarely preconceived and are built up in blocks of pattern and texture. I like to introduce collage into my work using bits and pieces from my large collection of recycled material and paper. It's the element of surprise I enjoy when working in different mediums – not quite knowing where a piece of work is leading me, but I ultimately aim to produce 'harmonious compositions'.
